I configured my API endpoints with Google Cloud Functions, stored data with Firestore, and used the Paddle API to add integrated payments with programmatic pricing. The web interface is very simple, a dash of basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript just invoke these custom APIs and change elements as needed. I’m old and haven’t worked with a browser in a long time, so I went straight to jQuery for DOM manipulation and JSON requests and, well, it works and the jQuery API still looks good. .

We were able to add 5 more games in the middle of Lab Surprise without any issues or hiccups. We just created a new promotion and switched to it.
The way we build it is also easy to develop: we can add all paid AppLab games if their developers are interested. We can add games from the official quest store as a special event for a 2-day period… We can make a version with 6 games, or 20, or just 1 surprise.
Commercially, we have gained some autonomy by experimenting with marketing our applications. And I think it’s good for the whole indie VR ecosystem. Because it shows that we don’t have to wait for stores to be ready, we can create our own marketing experiences.
