What is AT&T phone insurance?
If you recently purchased a new device from AT&T, you have several protection plans to choose from, depending on your individual needs. Every phone insurance plan protects your phone against loss, theft, damage, and out-of-warranty failure. So if you accidentally drop your phone in the bath, you will be covered by phone insurance. To get a replacement device, you only need to pay the deductible amount, which is calculated based on the device you own and it’s level.

AT&T’s strongest phone insurance is Protect Advantage, which you can get for one or four devices. Whether you sign up for one or four, the plans are pretty much the same and offer many benefits, such as device replacements and screen repairs on the same day. You can make up to three claims per year with a single device, while you can make up to eight claims with the Four Device plan (including tablets, smartwatches, and laptops).
If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a phone insurance plan, there’s also a cheaper option from AT&T called cell phone insurance. You will not get a special discount based on the number of registered devices, but each device will be covered for minor life accidents. With this plan, you can make up to two claims per year, and you can also get screen repairs and hardware replacements as soon as the next day.
Who Can Enroll in AT&T Telephone Insurance?
Any AT&T Postpaid Wireless Plan subscriber can sign up for an AT&T phone insurance plan for up to 30 days after activating or upgrading your device. If you didn’t sign up for phone insurance right away when you bought your phone, you can always sign up later (but within 30 days) via the AT&T app by selecting insurance as ‘add’. There is sometimes an open registration period in the spring for those who miss the 30-day window, so you can keep an eye on it.
If you bring your device to AT&T, you’re still eligible for phone insurance as long as your phone is functioning properly and you signed up within 30 days of activating your wireless service.
How much does AT&T phone insurance cost?
AT&T Protect Advantage is available for one or four devices. If you only want to cover one device, you can expect to pay $15 per month on top of your phone bill. However, the monthly fee jumps to $40 per month if you cover four devices.
If you’re looking to save money on your phone insurance, AT&T’s most budget-friendly option is their cellular insurance plan, which only costs $8.99 per month per device regardless of how many devices you subscribe to.
